The Problem with Nomads

TSaying goodbyehe Somali people are predominately a nomadic people group, which means one thing, they move around a lot. This creates an interesting problem for us. We say goodbye a lot. We work very hard to create friendships and relationships with our neighbors or our students and then zip they are gone. Recently, we have had a couple of Somalis we had good relationships with move to the United States. They were both students of Adam’s. One was my most talented and dedicated student, the other was a student Adam worked hard to build a friendship outside of the classroom with.

It is always hard to say goodbye to these precious relationships, but we came here to help our students improve their situation. In the case of these two students they both moved to the United States and hopefully their future is full of new friends, a better education and better job opportunities.
