Spring Newsletter 2020

While planning this newsletter the world has changed quite a lot in the last few weeks. Thankfully we already started developing our new program that I wanted to share with you. With that in mind I would like to update you on what is going on in our ministry, our update has changed very little or not at all because of Covid-19, our update is about our brand-new online program.

Our new youth center is going well. Because of the generosity of many donors we have been able to outfit the center with tables, chairs, couches, a ping pong table, a foosball table, and a PlayStation. Our students love the space and especially love having a safe place to hang out on Fridays after school. Because we are still building and fundraising, we are open 3 days a week. The 3 days of week don’t always line up with everyone’s schedule especially our older students who have college classes and jobs. To better reach these students, last month we developed an online curriculum.

The online curriculum gives us incredible flexibility in being able to interact with our students on a weekly basis. We push our youth development courses to them via video, and then touch base with them for 1 on 1 chats. This allows the students to connect with us even when they only have a few spare minutes. This has gone well, and we have seen our students open up to us in new ways and share deeply personal stories which gives us opportunity to share our deeply personal stories.

Now since the start of the shelter in place directive we have been able to pivot quickly and move our students that would come to our physical location to our online curriculum. Because we had already started the process with some students it allowed us to welcome our older students easily. Now we are working hard on scaling this program.

We know this will all end, and we will no longer be directed to minimize events, hopefully sooner then we think and with less impact that we dread. When it does, we are looking forward to our first event with both our online students and our in-person students.

Thank you for your continued support. We are still working diligently to reach our students and it would not be possible without your faithful support.
